There Is a Battle Outside Raging...Obama, Sotomayor...For Times They Are a Changin'

In light of the addition of Obama & Sotomayor to leadership within the last 6 months, I believe that we can say, 'times they are a changin'.

We have been here before . . . just different issues . . . but it is still that same old change beating its drum, ever so consistently. The one thing about life, it constantly changes. So listen for some wisdom in this great song performed by Bob Dylan. Great delivery. You really feel what he's saying. I've chosen the older video for a reason. It's honest.

I'll tell you, right now, there are a lot of people that are hurting out there, a lot want change, a lot embrace anger, a lot are deviant, a lot are seeking economic change, a spiritual change, a power change, and on and on. They are seeking. Some of us (lawyers) have answers for them. Maybe we could give a little more, without waving our flag to the Pro Bono Society of the Bar, telling everyone "I'M AWESOME" (Justin Timberlake imitating Ashton Kutcher on SNL 'Punked' skit). Maybe we just do a little legal work for free . . . just because . . . times they are a changin'. Maybe we don't have to parade around with our vain award-wall worshippin' lawyer attitude. Maybe we can hide the awards, hide the Pro Bono, do a little changin' ourselves and help some people that need it for the sake of helping some people that need it. There is a great need for it out there.

Well, I guess we'll see whether or not "times they are a changin'" for us lawyers. At least we get to decide for ourselves, at this pivotal time in history. Some people in the world don't even have that, oh yea, most people in the world don't' even have that.

In light of Justice Sotomayor and President Obama . . . it is obvious that change is already afoot. Think through the lyrics of this song. How does it relate to you? For us Las Vegans in the legal community, how does it relate to Las Vegas, to our Legal Community, to State Politics, to Federal Politics, to religion, to morality, to education, to recession, depression and obsession. Things are changin' here too. I say for the better. I guess it all depends on your ability to move along with the change.
